deus caritas est
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Nou menm nou konnen jan Bondye renmen nou, nou kwè se vre. Bondye se renmen an menm.

As a theologian, King was more at home in the koine Greek of his seminary classroom, than he was in Latin. But I think the biblical concept cor ad cor loquitur (Heart speaks to heart) which Cardinal Newman honed in so beautifully on, is very close to the deeply relevant, deeply personalist message of Martin Luther King. Those close to him spoke King's profound dependence on, and love for "a Personal Being of matchless power and infinite love." This loving Personal Being was the secret behind the eloquent Southern Black Gospel idiom that the world heard from the lips of this powerful orator and moral witness to our generation. Is it not time to hear the word of the Lord.
Deep calleth unto deep, and that is where we must listen.
Martin Luther King, Jr. : Not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ
Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality. This Hindu-Muslim-Christian-Jewish-Buddhist belief about ultimate reality is beautifully summed up in the first epistle of Saint John: "Let us love one another, for love is God. And every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love." "If we love one another, God dwelleth in us and his love is perfected in us." Let us hope that this spirit will become the order of the day. |
